A Christmas Ode to the Word Press Reader

Twas the week before Christmas,
And through all WordPress house,
Not a creature was stirring,
Not even a mouse,

Then up jumped a code wrangler,
And shouted with glee,
Let’s cause a nuisance,
And I’ll do it for free,

It’s just before Xmas,
They will all be so busy,
We can mess with the Reader,
And make them all dizzy,

So they worked hard through the day,
And they worked hard through the night,
It was so very unusual,
That it gave them a fright,

Then the bloggers complained,
And made the wranglers feel sad,
So the the bloggers said more,
And drove the wranglers quite mad,

Then up spoke a blogger,
With “that’s well deserved”,
Let’s put them in aspic,
And have them preserved.

We do need a sense of humour to cope and keep our spirits up.  Meanwhile Sam’s Song is brilliant and Sam the Eagle is my hero:-

Appalled and shocked, but we have been here before.  Making an effort does make a difference.  Imagine how bad it would be if we didn’t.

Extremely Rare

April 1-2

Thanks to a friendly park keeper at St James Park, I was able to photograph twin Graylag Geese.   Born from one egg, that would otherwise have been a double yolk, they rarely survive and these two have another special feature.  Ethologist Konrad Lorenz did his first major studies into the behavioural phenomenon of imprinting using Graylag Geese and, according to the park keeper, these two have imprinted on one another and are inseparable.

They are so rare that you are unlikely to see anything like this until next April 1st.   Yes, I am disgraceful and ingenious abuse is welcome and probably deserved.   Here’s wishing you all a fun day. 🙂

Straight Up With A Twist

The Cable Car over the Thames, London,UK.

Well, I suppose the builders were grinning when they said they’d give it whirl.  I should have known better really.

The United Emirates cable car traverses the river Thames in East London between the Royal Victoria Dock, on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and the North Greenwich Peninsula.  It can be found on the Standard London Underground Map ⇒  at sector D8.  From Greenwich Pensinsula there is a bus service to wonderful Maritime (Cutty Sark) Greenwich ⇐ which is on another branch of the Docklands Light Railway.

Cable Car Fares ⇒

It makes sense to use an Oyster Card (touch in/touch out) as this will also save money on the London Underground/Overground and Docklands Light Railway.

About Oyster Cards ⇒.

BE AWARE: That if you forget to touch in with a card there is a heavy fine.  If you forget to touch out when leaving a station, the maximum charge is deducted from your card.

A video of the view ⇒  shows that although it is partly obstructed by the tall buildings of Canary Wharf and lasts 5-10 minutes (according to time of day), it is nevertheless quite good value for money.

It is used for some commuting to and from work, so it is better to avoid peak times.
