Geffrye Museum – Interiors

The Geoffrye Museum is very close to Hoxton station on the London Overground Line.   There is a front and back garden area, which is worth seeing, and entrance to the museum is free.    The interior has a long row of rooms which depict interior decor and furniture throughout the ages.  There is also an exhibition area in the basement and one may join a tour of a small Alms House exhibit.

Here is a taste of the museum.

  1. There seems to be a never ending supply of museums and stately homes in London.

    • Still quite a few to come, although the most stunning do not allow photography (copyrighted artifacts). Hey Ho 🙂

      • Oh is that why? I thought it was because they were worried about the flash damaging the art.

        • No flash/tripod is common everywhere. Blanket bans are usually about copyright of artifacts, That’s why places like the the British Museum and the V & A are so great.

  3. I am always nervous about taking pics in case I get told off. Even if I see other people taking pics, and even though in other ways I can be quite non-conformist. Do you just assume that it is OK unless a place explicitly says no photos? This looks great and I would love to go here one day – my friend had a piece in ceramics exhibition here once.

    • Generally flash/tripods are not allowed. However, for non-commercial purposes, every venue shown on this blog/gallery accepts and even welcomes photographers. If in doubt (website does not say) I email them first and save a wasted journey.

Things are improving is in this respect. Most restrictions are due to images of artifacts being copyrighted, a royal chapel or place of worship that is in use.
